Aberdeen Multi-Modal Transportation Center Study April 22, 2009

The Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor (CSSC) Regional BRAC Office will hold a public session on its Multi-Modal Transportation Center (MTC) feasibility study on Wednesday, April 22, from 5:30-7:30PM at the HEAT Center, 1201 Technology Drive, Aberdeen, MD 21001 in Room 130.

CSSC has contracted with URS Corp in Hunt Valley, MD to assess and evaluate the feasibility of a
multi-modal transportation center in the Aberdeen area. The hub would serve to accommodate rail,
commuter and local bus, and shuttle service on and off the Post due to the identified increase in
commuters resulting from the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure at Aberdeen Proving Ground
(APG). BRAC is anticipated to bring approximately 28,000 jobs to the APG region.

Rick Nau, URS Corp. Project Manager for the study, and his team are tackling a complex task,
analyzing many features and variables associated with a concept for the MTC. Can it be created within the existing footprint of the current Aberdeen train station? Does it require relocation of the station nearer to the MD 715 gate of APG? What are the station and track requirements of Amtrak? What funding sources can be identified to support such an endeavor?
